2023 Chevy Colorado ZR2-Based Military Truck – We were surprised to see the prototype Army Infantry Squad Vehicle (ISV), at last year’s SEMA. It’s basically a military truck with all the necessary stuff, including doors, roofs, and windshields. This makes it easy to fit up to nine soldiers in.

Reusing all functional parts of the 2021 Colorado ZR2-GM states that 90 percent of the ISV’s components are off-the-shelf. This includes the 2.8-liter turbodiesel as well as the six-speed automatic. The ISV should provide cost-effective battlefield mobility. Mobility is the keyword here. This truck is not an ultra-protective MRAP-style truck that can protect a squad from IEDs and mines. It is a quick, efficient, and more importantly, easily transportable solution. It can be slung from a UH-60 Blackhawk and fit into a CH47 Chinook helicopter. It can be deployed and trades an MRAP armor for mobility. The ISV’s goal is not to absorb the damage, but to prevent it.

Ricardo Defense and GM Defense will be the ISV’s partners. The company was awarded three $1 million contracts last year to develop the ISV. GM will be able to build the first 649 ISVs with a total of 2,065 more in the future thanks to the $214 million it received on Sunday.

You’ll find a beefy exoskeleton extending over the ISV, despite the minimal front bodywork. There are two rows of standard seats in the usual places, while several side-facing and rear-facing seats were once the bed. SEMA’s prototype featured rucksacks that were hung on top of the exchange and basic tools at its rear. Other companies’ prototype ISVs, such as Oshkosh Industries and Polaris Industries, had machine guns mounted above the front cabin. However, we aren’t sure if the ISV will mount any weapons or what weapon systems they can mount.

Multimatic dual-spool-valve shocks will be carried over from the ZR2, which is known for its most popular equipment. This should give the ISV the best of both: a pleasant ride and the ability to absorb large impacts off-road. The Army will require it to be able to transport nine troops at 60 mph off-road.
