2023 Ford F-150 Rattler Off-Road Pickup – Ford has come up with another name for a truck to go alongside it. This package is not the expensive, high-end option at the top of the range. It’s based on something much more affordable. It’s the F-150 Rattler. Because it is based on the XL-trim pickup you won’t have to shed as much skin in order to afford one. FX4 Off-Road is an optional package that can be added to any XL Ford F-150 Rattler. The package starts at $39,200 for 2022 and includes features that increase your ability when you are off the beaten track. It costs less than the big-buck Raptor/Tremor.
2023 Ford F-150 Rattler Off-Road Pickup Review
To help you when things get tough, an electronic locking rear differential will be included. To provide more stability while you are driving over rocks or ruts, the package includes off-road shocks. Hill descent control makes it easier to drive down steep, slippery surfaces. The FX4 also comes with skid plates to protect the fuel tank and transfer case under the truck from damage if you get into those rocks too hard. Rattler stickers replace the FX4 sticker that would be found on the bedsides. If it’s not showing off, what’s the special-edition truck? Nothing, that’s what.
Ford F-150 Rattler-specific 18-inch wheels have a dark finish. They are wearing Toyo all-terrain tires in these photos, which is a nice upgrade to the stock 17-inch silver steelies. Ford did not specify which tire model they were using, but they should be able to handle most trails.
The exterior looks are completed with F-150 Rattler badges on the fenders. Ford has added rattlesnake graphics to the fenders, as what name is complete without a graphic? Ford added dual exhausts to the pickup because a rattlesnake that doesn’t rattle is just a snake. Ford promises “a bold sound” so the pickup should make a rumbling sound when you turn the gas pedal from the cabin. Ford did not put snakeskin seats inside the F-150 Rattler even though it should. Ford did do some interior work, however. For a desert-inspired look, the F-150 Rattler has Onyx-colored seats and burnished bronze accents. Another cool feature is seat stitching that matches the instrument panel trim. This makes the design look more cohesive than a simple contrast stitch. It should also make the F-150 Rattler seem more complete than just a few mildly coordinated stickers or tape. The truck’s company photos show wood trim on its passenger-side dashboard and bronze trim around the center console. This combination creates a pickup that may be based on the lower-spec model, but it does not look cheap at the dealer.
Although Ford has not yet provided details about which engines would be included in the Rattler package we can guess based on Ford’s options list. FX4 packages are not available with the 290-horsepower, 3.3L V6. You’ll have to pay at least $1,192 for a 325-horsepower EcoBoost V6 and a little more for the 5.0L EcoBoost V8 or the 3.5L EcoBoost engines.
