2023 Toyota Tundra Diesel – The 2023 Toyota Tundra is a step in the right direction, in a world where diesel engines are becoming obsolete. The 2022 Toyota Tundra doesn’t currently have a diesel engine, but that could change soon.
2023 Toyota Tundra Diesel Redesign
Pickup Truck News reports that the 2023 Toyota Tundra diesel engine has been developed. It will soon join the hybrid and twin-turbo powertrain options. However, information on what to expect is not readily available. We switched gears to take a look at one Toyota video. “Engines 101: What Does a Diesel Engine Do?” answers many questions about diesel engines.
This is somewhat strange, as Toyota doesn’t currently offer diesel vehicles in the United States. But Toyota is a firm believer in diesel benefits. They are also more fuel efficient than gasoline engines and provide excellent torque for off-roading and towing.
The new diesel engine could be added to the Toyota Tundra 2023 by the J300 Toyota Land Cruiser. The 3.3-liter V6 Diesel engine produces 304 horsepower and 516 lb.ft of torque. Ram 1500 3.0-liter V6 EcoDiseal delivers 260 horsepower and 480 lb.ft of torque. This would give the Tundra more power than it needs. Toyota would need to comply with the stricter emission standards in the United States. This could have a negative impact on its sales. We don’t have the Land Cruiser in America, as we are expected to fall in Love with the 2023 Toyota Sequoia.
Toyota Tundra has a 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 389 horsepower and 479 lb.ft of torque. The i-FORCE Max can be upgraded to produce 437 hp, and 583 lb.ft of torque. The standard engine is EPA-estimated to get 18 mpg in cities and up to 24 mpg highway. The fuel consumption estimates for the Tundra Hybrid are not yet available. We are also unsure how the diesel will perform.
2023 Toyota Tundra Diesel Price & Release Date
A 2022 Toyota Tundra can be yours for $35,950. The 2023 Toyota Tundra will primarily be a standard model, with no major updates. A diesel engine could cost a few thousand more. Mike Sweers (Tundra Chief Engineer), explained that he wanted diesel torque and power for the new Tundra. He was unsure if the twin-turbo would provide enough power at first.
It also incorporates new technology that makes the smaller displacement more powerful and efficient. The iFORCE MAX offers diesel torque and could be an excellent alternative until the new diesel option is available. Tundra’s lack of powertrain options is one of its biggest flaws. The Ford F-150’s diesel engine was dropped as there seemed to be less interest. Bronco enthusiasts would love to see a diesel option. The addition of a diesel option to the Jeep Gladiator, Chevy Colorado and other midsize trucks brought attention to them. We will continue to follow the diesel trail and keep you informed.
