2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV Work Truck – While Chevrolet was in the news for the launch of its top-of-the-line Silverado EV RST First Edition, however, there’s another significant model that is scheduled to be launched in 2023. That’s the entry-level WT trim targeted towards fleet buyers. Chevrolet hopes that this truck will be the one that will bring electrification to fleets. Although it’s identical to the popular Silverado Electric Vehicle, it does have several distinctions that will make the Silverado WT EV a vehicle designed to work.
2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV Work Truck Review
The Silverado WT is built on the identical Ultium platform that has a 24-module battery pack as the rest of the Silverado EV line-up and will have the same estimated 400 miles range. Similar to its predecessor, the Silverado EV RST, the WT will come with a two-motor configuration, however, the output will drop by 664 HP and 780 pounds of torque from the RST to 615 horsepower and 510 lb-ft. It will also be able to operate without any Wide Open Watts (WOW) setting since the majority of fleet owners do not like the risk of having their employees being in a vehicle that can out drag a sports car in the journey to their work location.
Charge And Distribute
The Silverado E-V WT comes with a DC rapid-charge capacity of up to 35 kW. This will be enough to give 100 miles in 10 minutes. Similar to its predecessor, the Silverado EV RST, the WT model will come with 10 outlets. One 120-volt outlet is situated within the eTrunk. One 120-volt outlet can be found in the center console and four 120-volt outlets are in the bed together with one outlet that is 240-volts. There are also the PowerBase accessories for the power bars connected to the charging port, which can add two additional 120-volt outlets as well as an additional 240-volt outlet. The Silverado EV can export up to 10.2 Kilowatts of power. It will charge an additional Silverado E-V WT or any other electric vehicle.
With a particular focus on fleet clients, the Silverado EV’s cab-only interior has been less slick than the more consumer-grade RST but still looks professional with its all-black design. The center screen measures 11 inches and replaces the 17-inch screen found on the RST with the ability to reconfigure the driver’s screen shrinks to 7 inches, which is a difference from the 8-inch display found on the RST. The WT also replaces the glass roof, replacing it with one made of durable metal.
There’s not a single work truck on the market that’s not employed for towing and hauling, which is why Chevrolet has made sure that the Silverado EV WT model was capable of the job. Each WT model will include a Tow/Haul mode, hitch options as well as A trailer brake controller that is integrated. Hitch Guidance is also available from the front screen. When towing is reduced to 8,000 pounds after the RST the next model of the Silverado Electric Vehicle will be certified to tow at 20,000 pounds.
The new Silverado WT features a 5-foot 11-inch bed, however, it is missing its Multi-Flex midgate option, which would increase the capacity to carry cargo. The payload has been reduced by 100 pounds since the RST and is now 1,200 pounds however, Chevy plans to launch a variety of accessories that make use of the Silverado’s unique structure to charge, carry and store tools within the bed and inside the trunk. Despite the swoopy design, we think it’s decent reporting for the job with the bed rack.
To keep the price low, Chevrolet does a little contending with the WT and some of it is visible and others not. For instance, the WT has a non-painted fascia, which is less expensive to produce and less prone to damage from scratches and collisions. The air suspension is removed in favor of an unadjustable steel spring set-up as well as four-wheel steering not used for the WT. The massive 24-inch wheels at the RST are replaced with 18-inch steelies encased in a tire that has an increased sidewall.
Fortunately that the LED taillamps and headlamps remain but without the animations or the charge indicator that are found in the RST. The charging progress will be visible at the charging port as well as in the accompanying app. Additionally, it is important to note that the drunk won’t be able to open, but will rely on the user to open it manually. This is something we do not think is a concern for blue-collar professionals.
2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV Work Truck Price & Release Date
Chevrolet promises that the WT will debut in 2023 in the spring, and will have a base cost of $39,990, and an additional destination fee of $1,695. It’s close to the F-150 Lightning’s base price. Even though the Ford will arrive earlier and will have a higher payload of 2500 pounds but it’s the Silverado EV could just be worth the wait thanks to its increased range of 100 miles and 300 pounds more towing capacity and a slight advantage over Lightning’s 9.6 kW power output. It is expected to be available in the Chevrolet Silverado EV will be built at the GM’s Detroit Factory Zero at the Detroit-Hamtramck assembly center.
