2024 Chevy Silverado EV RST – It’s about to enter an entirely new generation thanks to electrification. We’ve seen quite a bit about Ford’s F-150 Lightning. Now it’s time for the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado Electric Vehicle to join the fray. Chevrolet unveiled Wednesday the 2024 Silverado EV pickup truck at CES 2022 in Las Vegas. It will be available in two trims when it rolls off the Detroit GM Factory Zero line in 2023: the fully loaded RST (Rally Sport Truck), First Edition, and the fleet-centric WT, Work Truck.
2024 Chevy Silverado EV RST Redesign
The Silverado EV’s design is a natural extension of GM’s current lineup of electric vehicles. The front fascia is reminiscent of the Bolt EV’s and Bolt EUV’s, with the thin strip of running light covering the truck’s entire width. The front overhang of the pickup is much smaller than modern pickups. This makes it easier to park than your cousin 2500 Duramax. While the RST keeps the matte-gray elements in the lower portion of the body, the WT has that unpainted look all the way up to the front bumper. Yes, there is a frunk. GM calls it the eTrunk. The buttressing that runs between the bed and the cabin is my favorite feature of the Silverado Electric Vehicle. It’s reminiscent of Chevy Avalanche, but it’s a great thing. If you look a little further back, the rear end of the pickup looks more traditional. The MultiFlex Tailgate opens to reveal a bed that can hold items up to 11 inches in length.
There’s another secret between the bed and the cabin. It’s called the MultiFlex Midgate by GM. This pass-through is available on RST models. It allows buyers to transport longer loads by folding down a portion of the 40-60 split-second rows. The Silverado EV RST can hold items up to 9 feet in length with the midgate opened. The tailgate can be placed in the maximum storage position and this will increase its length to 10 feet 10 inches. It is huge! I have seen it in person and can confirm that. The wheels that you see in GM promotional photos? These suckers measure 24 inches in diameter. GM did not give too many numbers, but the overall length of the roof is 233 inches. This is a few tenths longer than the F-150 Lightning. The Lightning’s roof measures 76 inches. Chevy could have made the interior an exact copy of the 2022 Silverado’s, but it didn’t. Instead, we see a clean-sheet design that looks almost as much like a pickup truck as it does a passenger car. According to GM, the center console can hold 7 gallons. This is enough space for a lunch cooler. The large cabin feels even more airy thanks to the fixed-glass roof.
All versions of the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV will be able to ride on GM’s Ultium platform. This is the same platform as the Hummer EV. Both the RST and WT versions will launch with the same battery. GM estimates that both models will have 400 miles of range. The RST has a higher output; the Silverado E-Vote EV RST can produce up to 664 horsepower, and 780 lb-feet torque in Wide Open Watts mode. Silverado EV WT has a lower rating at 510 hp and 615 lb. ft. According to the automaker, WOW mode will allow the RST to reach 60 mph in a little over 4.5 seconds. Silverado’s first battery, although lower-range options are in the works, will be capable of charging up to 350 Kilowatts. This can add approximately 100 miles to the range in just 10 minutes at full speed. The Silverado will be able, just like the F-150 Lightning Lightning, to supply power to tools and other items on a job site, or at campsites. 10 outlets can provide up to 10.2kW of juice. This is a little more than the Lightning.
Both Silverado Electric Vehicles are capable of hauling heavy truck loads. The RST can tow up to 10,000 pounds and carry up to 1,300lbs in its bed. The WT’s numbers are lower at 8,000 and 1,200 respectively. Those who need to pull large items may want to delay a little as GM promises a max-tow version of the WT that can tow up to 20,000 lbs, which is HD truck territory.
Interior & Exterior
Silverado’s EV is packed with tech, both inside and outside the vehicle. RST models get an adaptive air suspension standard that adjusts the truck’s ride height approximately 2 inches. You can also get four-wheel steering, but not the crab-walking mode found on the GMC Hummer EV. Chevy Safety Assist is the automaker’s suite of active and passive driver aids. It comes as standard on RST and WT. The suite includes an automatic emergency brake, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, and the following distance indicator. It also has lane-keep assistance, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, lane-keep aid, lane-keep assistant, and lane-keep warning. The trailer-capable Super Cruise will enable hands-free operation on pre-mapped highways in the US. This tech was tested on a GMC Sierra, and it worked just as well as the regular Super Cruise. However, there is a little more work-focused ability. The fully loaded Silverado Silverado E-Vault RST has some impressive cabin tech. The standard infotainment screen is 17 inches. An additional 11-inch configurable gauge monitor is available. WT reduces this size by offering an 11-inch telematics solution and an 8-inch digital cluster.
2024 Chevy Silverado EV RST Release Date & Price
The WT will be the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV model to go on sale. It is expected to start deliveries in spring 2023. A GM representative stated that most of the models for the first model year are already sold out. The WT will be a fleet purchase, so GM has not yet announced a price. GM plans to sell the WT at a starting price of $39,900 before destination once production is up to speed. However, that range will be lower than what has been previously mentioned. The RST First Edition will not roll off the lines until fall 2023 and will be priced at $105,000 before destination. Other trims, including Trail Boss badges and other familiar badges, will be available in the future. GM plans to make a Silverado EV variant at various prices, including $60,000, $70,000, and $80,000, but it didn’t give a timeline for when that might be possible. This gives the F-150 Lightning a significant advantage in the new pickup-truck market. However, Chevy enthusiasts can still place a $100 reservation online for the Silverado EV RST First Edition Silverado EV RST.
